Drinking alcohol is a commonly accepted lifestyle choice but it can have devastating impact on individuals and families if it gets out of control. 

If you think your drinking is getting out of hand our specialist Alcohol Reduction Advisers can help. We can give clear support to help you plan how to decrease your drinking to a safer level or even quit drinking if you wish. 

Arun Wellbeing's Alcohol Reduction Service is free, confidential and is designed to support you in reducing your alcohol consumption and moving towards a healthier lifestyle.

The service is open to anyone aged 18 or over, living or working in West Sussex. Our Alcohol Reduction Advisers offer one-to-one appointments which can be conducted by phone, video call or face-to-face.

What to expect

When you first get in touch with the service, your local Adviser will carry out an assessment, using specialist questionnaires to find out more about your drinking and help you access the right kind of support. These questions are used to identify what areas to focus on and help you set goals around reduction of drinking and reducing the risk of alcohol-related harm.

Support is given to help you choose healthier and safer alternatives to alcohol, moving at your own pace towards your goals. Weekly sessions of between 30 minutes and an hour are recommended to help you make positive changes.

Our Advisers will:

• Listen without judgement
• Help you take small steps to achieve your goals
• Offer advice, information, tools and resources to support you
• Signpost you towards other organisations who may provide further support

Clients who commit to six to eight weekly sessions to reduce their drinking report:

• Better sleep
• Improved relationships
• Increased energy
• Improved short term memory
• Better focus and concentration
• Feeling more positive in their outlook
