'Walking the Way to Health' is a national initiative brought to us by the British Heart Foundation and Natural England. Since, 2000, it is estimated that some 1 million people have been encouraged to walk more.
Our general wellbeing can be improved by organised walks (brisk or not). They give the opportunity to socialise (good social networks enhance health), provide a distraction from everyday stresses (stress contributes to poor health) and give us better overall physical fitness.
The scheme, started in the Arun district in 2001 by Inspire Leisure, is still going strong, with now over 500 registered walkers, walking in Arundel, Littlehampton, Aldwick and Bognor Regis.
Arun Wellbeing supports this great initiative, walking is a great way to get fit and improve your emotional wellbeing.

All walks are free of charge and are led by a trained volunteer walks leader. There is also a ‘Back marker’ who will walk at the pace of the slowest person. Each walk will last between 45-60 minutes and you will be encouraged to walk at your own comfortable pace. Often a stop on route is made for refreshments.
It is not a race so don’t worry if you are not able to walk quickly, everybody starts somewhere!
