Heat Hero Award!
Emma Pagett our Home Energy Adviser for Arun Wellbeing was named a Heat Hero at a special awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament last week.
The Heat Heroes Awards, are open to individuals across England and Wales and celebrate those who go above and beyond to get the recognition they deserve – for helping people in their community live in warmer homes.
Held in partnership between ScottishPower and the charity National Energy Action, this year there were some very strong candidates, but the judges managed to select fifteen worthy winners.
The winners were shining examples to others in their communities; here is what Councillor Mike Clayden, Arun District Council Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing said about Emma.
“I am very proud of Emma, who, along with colleague Jo Williamson, has worked hard to provide much-needed support to some of our most vulnerable residents. The feedback we have received from residents shows just how much of a difference Emma has made to their lives. We are all grateful for Emma’s hard work and the award is well deserved.”

Since 2015, Emma has been providing dedicated, effective and patient service to households in the Arun and Chichester Districts. Vulnerable residents contact the Home Energy Visitor service to seek advice with a range of concerns including high energy bills and inefficient or broken heating systems.
In order to support our residents, Emma keeps up to date with all the available funding possibilities, but also strives to empower people so they can better manage their fuel bills themselves in the future. Emma shows compassion to those with health needs made worse by the cold and damp. She pays great attention to what her clients say and treats each one as an individual, tailoring the help they can get. Just a few examples of her achievements include:
Although there are challenges with funding for heating solutions becoming harder to find, Emma continues to provide comfort to clients who are sometimes desperate through the effects of fuel poverty. The impact her efforts have made to help our residents stay warm in their homes is best put into words by them - Below is just a handful of comments made by clients:
“Emma was very knowledgeable and thorough. We have no computer & are complete novices in finance or anything technical so Emma was marvellous & very reassuring. Thank you.”
“Emma was marvellous - very patient and clear in all her instructions. A great help to us. She rang our energy company, got a reduction in our monthly repayments & made everything much clearer. Thank you so much Emma”
“Emma made me feel at ease, good extensive product knowledge. Great communication and follow-up. Thank you very much for all your help.”
